Seth (or Set)
The wicked brother of Osiris, Seth was associatd with chaos, infertility and the desert. He was the son of Nut. In the Osiris legend, Seth lures his brother into a trap and murders him, sending his body floating away on the Nile. Isis searches for, and eventually finds the body. In some Dynasties he was honored as the essential chaos that must form a necessary duality with order. Kings in the Nineteenth and Twentieth Dynasties incorporated his name (Seti).
The Hyksos adopted him as the personification of their own god when they ruled at Avris. His cult center at Tanis is near the site of Avris. The city of Naqada was also a cult center. Seth formed a triad with Neith and Sobek.
